Mark Gatiss Addresses Sherlock Movie Return Chances

Mark Gatiss has recently talked about the possibility of a big screen return of the popular BBC series, Sherlock movie return. The series, co-created by Gatiss and Steven Moffat, was based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective and other characters in contemporary London. It ran for four seasons from 2010 to 2017, with an additional seasonal special. Despite the show’s conclusion, fans have been wondering if there could ever be another season or even a movie adaptation.

It has been over seven years since Sherlock came to an end. The co-creator of the movie recently addressed the possibility of a Sherlock movie return. Gatiss spoke to Deadline about whether his adaptation of the classic detective had truly closed the case for good. While Gatiss was interested in potentially bringing Sherlock back for a feature-length movie, the chances would ultimately depend on who would be available for the production. Gaiss full response on Sherlock movie return chances below:

You’ll have to ask Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman]. We’d like to make a film but trying to get everyone together is very difficult.

In Sherlock’s final episode, “The Final Problem,” Sherlock and John come out from the awful losses and upsetting of the past season and rebuilding their bombed-out Baker Street flat and setting out to rebuild their reputations. The last episode featured footage of the duo taking new cases and getting back to business, hinting that their work would continue while they may not have any more on-screen adventures. With the show ending on such an open-ended note, creating a movie continuation will be easy if they really do Sherlock movie return.

Moffat, the creator of a popular TV series, has confirmed that he and the series producer Sue Vertue would return if a movie or a new show version is approved. However, while Gatiss’ Mycroft Holmes could be a guaranteed presence should the showrunner manage to reunite Cumberbatch and Freeman, certain series mainstays would not be able to make an appearance. Una Stubbs, who portrayed Sherlock and John’s landlady with a shady past, Mrs. Hudson, passed away in 2021.

If you were hoping for new cases or an epilogue to Sherlock’s adventures, please take note of this message., Gatiss’ response may not be what they’d hoped, but it is nevertheless an optimistic update.

Sherlock movie return.
